Over-the-Rhine is a photo series that seeks to explore the Cincinnati neighborhood of the same name and its surroundings. The series was started in response to the shooting of Samuel DuBose, an unarmed black man, by officer Ray Tensing of the University of Cincinnati Police, which happened July 19th, 2015.
Tensing was charged with murder and manslaughter. The cases were declared a mistrial after the jury was hung on the two charges. Meanwhile, the Over-the-Rhine area has become increasingly gentrified—luxury residential buildings have gone up, a massive new park expansion is planned, and some public basketball courts face being demolished to make way for private development.
The portraits and landscapes of "Over-the-Rhine" are documentation of the people and places that are constantly disappearing and being replaced in the wake of the police shooting.
